导柱主要有两个作用。
      一，支撑作用，导柱安装在下模座上，对上模座有一定的支撑作用；
      二，导向作用，导柱主要与安装在上模座的导套配合使用，使上模座在压力机的作用下沿导柱上下运动，以实现冲压之类。要求硬度强度高**。可采用局部表面渗碳淬火。
      导柱（Guide rod）具有精度高、**性好、强度高等特点。同时可根据客户不同的需求，制造不同型号、规格的导柱。 导柱加工中导柱的圆度有很高要求，在和导套配合的时候能起到上下滑动的效果。打中心孔主要是为了能使用外圆磨床研磨外径，因为使用外圆磨床研磨外径的时候要用良好**住中心孔使导柱旋转才可以研磨。
 
     外导柱组件广泛应用于各类冲压模具（五金冲模、电子接插件冲模等）、高速级进冲压模具（翅片冲模、定转子硅钢片冲模等）的模架导向，导套通过过盈、压装、厌氧胶粘、环氧树脂粘安装在模板上，导柱过盈装配到模板上。其作用:模具的上下型合模时起初始导向的作用。
