该工艺的实质为生物处理加上加药化学除磷，除磷主要靠化学沉析及混凝磁分离来实现，磁性材料的选取：考虑因素——磁种材料选取的zui基本要求：1具有较强的磁性，2利用磁场作用易于回收重复利用，根据以上基本条件我们直接可以选择常见的Fe粉，Fe2O3，Fe3O4及其铁和铁的氧化物的复合材料，不过从技术经济性角度上考虑，通常的磁性材料偏向于铁，铁氧化物及其相应的复合物，因为钴镍及其相应合金价格远**铁及其铁氧化物的价格。

故其广泛应用于钢铁行业及污水处理行业等，下表是钢铁企业典型废水处理结果，这类技术被人们称为“磁种混凝磁分离”或者“磁加载磁分离”技术，在废水处理领域，【磁种没有选择性的要求，一般只要求其：①具有比较强的磁性；②易于回收重复利用，因为HGMS装置需要反洗，负荷不能过重，否则反洗频繁，故在**设置澄清池，工艺实为磁粉加载絮凝沉降，磁粉起的作用大部分是加速澄清的“配重”作用以及方便磁鼓回收的“磁种”作用。

磁分离技术：是利用强磁力将废水中的导磁性絮团打捞分离出来，达到水质净化的目的，微磁絮凝+**磁分离技术以及磁催化活性污泥技术在2006年开始已经应用于**废水、工业废水、油田废水领域，**磁分离技术是利用永磁磁盘过滤吸附带磁性的悬浮物达到固液分离的目的，整个混凝、絮凝和固液分离的时间为3分钟左右，经过添加磁种、混凝、絮凝后的污水通过**磁分离设备的流速可达到300m/h~1000m/h；磁混凝沉淀技术是通过投加比重为5.2的磁粉，并使之与水中颗粒物紧密结合，从而提高混凝絮体的比重，大大加快沉淀速度，BioMag生化技术是通过磁粉与生物处理相结合，提高污泥沉降性能，增加污泥浓度。
